OTHER WORKS
When I am not designing, I spend my time letting my mind absorb the beauty of the world and learning about the little details that surrounds me.

TITLE : Communal Spaces : Are There Too Many?

ACADEMIC YEAR : Year 2, Temasek Polytechnic

YEAR : 2018

In a communication module, we had to write a report as pairs, on problems in Singapore. My partner and I questioned if there are too many communal spaces, mainly void decks, in Singapore, because we do not see many people using them.

With an increase of socially isolated individuals in Singapore, the number of users using communal spaces will decrease drastically in years to come. Eventually, the many void decks of Singapore will become obsolete and that once unique feature about Singapore will no longer exist.

We talked about the causes of social isolation, how people of different age groups can get affected, and how we propose to improve this situation.

Understanding different types of architecture gives us more exposure to find our own distinct style when designing. In this video, my group and I went around Singapore, exploring the different types or architecture, mainly Post-Modernism. Theses buildings include Resorts World Sentosa and Tampines East Community Centre. Some Post Modernism characteristics present in both buildings include decorative elements, asymmetry, bright colours and curved forms.

I went for a informal concept, of having the video like a video-blog, which shows my group and I travelling to the sites, instead of only showing the building. This makes the video more interactive and keeps viewers in suspense.

ACEDEMIC YEAR : Polytechnic Foundation Programme

YEAR : 2017

Other than designing interior spaces, I have experience in creating and designing newsletters.
In this project, I was tasked to write a newsletter about Tampines, which has taught me a lot in terms of the history of the estate, as well as various different design aspects. I learnt about basic alignments, typography and crafting articles.

In this project, the brief was "Through the door". My concept was to show my dreams and fantasies through the door, but first I had to overcome my fears.

While coming up with this concept, I thought a lot about what I wanted to do in the future, which requires a lot of interaction with people who I have never met before. At this point of doing this project, I was very shy and introverted which is why talking to strangers was a huge fear of mine, which is represented with the animals

During my free time, I explore the "other side" of Singapore, the places that are not all about the glitz and glamour.
I am really drawn to these type of places because it is like history has frozen in time. I am still able to walk through these places as though in the era that they have been built.
